Research interests/research project
Currently I am researching the mechanics of different polymers by using the AFM. I will measure the deflection of cantilever tips that have polymers grown on them. By determining the deflection of the cantilever, and the spring constant of the cantilever we are able to calculate the surface stress of the polymer. By introducing different controls, like changing the temperature or pH, hopefully we will be able to see the mechanics of the polymer change accordingly.
